Peter Kabethi

PWDs Independent Living Advisor

Peter is the PWDs Independent Living Advisor at the Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya.
He is a dedicated, resourceful and goal-driven professional educator with a solid commitment to
the social and academic growth of every child. Peter has over 13 years experience tutoring Deaf
learners both at primary and high school levels. He holds a Masters Degree in Education
majoring in Educational Assessment, Measurement and Evaluation from Aga Khan University, a
Bachelors Degree in Special Education from Mount Kenya University and a Diploma in Special
Education from the Kenya Institute of Special Education.
Besides teaching, Peter has also been involved in a lot of advocacy, outreach, mentoring and
leadership initiatives in organizations for and of the Deaf. He works to ensure that the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing are recognized in the society and given funding from the relevant government
and donor agencies.
At DESK, Peter provides information and referral services to our different Deaf and Hard of
Hearing beneficiaries, conducts advocacy and independent living skills training, provides support
and guidance to PWDs and their families and conducts community outreach initiatives and other
activities to promote disability awareness all over Kenya

Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya has an overarching goal of being a leading thought-leader in all matters affecting the Deaf in Kenya and all over the world as it seeks to ensure equal opportunities in all walks of life for the Deaf persons residing in Embu County and throughout Kenya.
