The Audio-Visual, Interactive Media, and Communications Coordinator will essentially be part of DESK’s Communications Team. She/he will provide support to the DESK’s Communications team mainly through designing and implementing project communication plans, collecting and documenting significant change stories, and events, taking impact photographs and supporting content for digital media and external engagement.

He/she will also be focused on the effective high-quality operation of the audio-visual systems and technology and will be in charge of maintaining, troubleshooting, patching, and improving systems and choosing the communications systems that are right for specific projects. As such, the scale and scope of The Audio-Visual, Interactive Media, and Communications duties will change depending on the nature of the organization’s project.  However, these are a few duties that they are likely to be in charge of fulfilling:

• Documenting stories of change and case studies for DESK and related programs that impact the organization’s work in all our project implementation sites.
• Coordinating with Programs Manager and Project staff to ensure that stories for the monthly highlight are submitted and shared with the communications team every week for internal circulation.
• Ensuring that child protection and safeguarding standards are adhered to during all communications-related work from content development to dissemination

• Taking high-resolution photos and short videos for use on different platforms including the website, publications, and on social media
• Editing photos (when there is a need to) and short videos to ensure good quality of work

• Supporting ongoing project and corporate events and activities through photography, a story collection, and media engagement in consultation with the Programs Manager

• Production and Distribution of IEC materials for the organization

• Actively engage in organization branding and visibility efforts
• Supporting in organizing events selected calendar days related to the project that DESK commemorates

• Ensuring that the cameras, recorders, and accompanying accessories assigned to the project at the PU are taken care of by keeping an inventory list to keep track.

• Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding policies and DESK’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
• Leads the orientation of program staff to ensure that they are properly inducted and understand their role in upholding DESK’s safeguarding policies
• Ensures DESK’s policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in project design, during implementation, and as principles applied in the day-to-day work of the Programme team.
• Ensures that DESK’s work contributes to global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including ensuring that relevant reporting and data are submitted.

• Any other assignment within the scope of work.

Essential Qualifications/ Experience:

• Degree in Communications – Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in the Audio-Visual, Interactive media, and communications field in a busy office environment.
• Writing and oral communication skills
• Microsoft Office Suite (Adobe suite/ Microsoft Publisher)
• Desktop Publishing
• Photography, basic videography, and interviewing skills
• Basic skills in website content management and social media
• Exhibit creativity in their work.

• Ability to respond to internal & external communication needs and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
• Ability to plan and follow tasks with minimal supervision.
• Take initiative to identify and solve problems.

• Community engagement skills
• Ability to support and tell impact stories
• Basic skills to build project team skills on documentation for profiling achievements.

Languages required:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Knowledge of Kenya Sign Language will be an added advantage.
