Dorcas Neema

Inclusive Education Officer & KSL Lead

Neema serves as the Inclusive Education Officer and lead Sign Language Interpreter at the Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya (DESK). Combining her pedagogical expertise with advanced linguistic skills, she is a central figure in DESK’s mission to provide high-quality, accessible education and communication services across Kenya.
Expertise in Inclusive Education
As the organization's Inclusive Education Officer, Neema is responsible for the design and implementation of all education-specific projects. Her work ensures that:
  • Accessible Learning: Education programs meet the unique needs of Deaf learners, fostering high enrollment and performance.
  • Project Management: Classroom-based interventions are delivered effectively, focusing on enhancing educational outcomes in primary and secondary institutions.
  • Special Needs Pedagogy: Her strategies are grounded in a Diploma in Special Needs Education from Maseno University.
KSL Interpretation & Training
Neema is a highly skilled interpreter, providing accurate communication support for:
  • Professional Forums: Serving as an interpreter for workshops, national conferences, and high-level appointments.
  • KSL Instruction: Facilitating Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) lessons at both basic and advanced levels for students and corporate clients through InclusivePath Consulting.
  • Operational Support: Providing interpretation during internal training sessions and community outreach events to ensure seamless integration between the hearing and Deaf communities.
Professional Certification
Neema holds a Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), ensuring that her training and interpretation services adhere to national standards. Her dedication to breaking communication barriers makes her a vital asset to DESK’s advocacy efforts
