Economic independence is the cornerstone of dignity. At DESK, we implement nationwide projects designed to lift Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, along with their families, out of extreme poverty. We believe that by providing the right tools and access, the Deaf community can move from economic marginalization to becoming key drivers of Kenya’s economy.

A Proven Track Record of Impact:
As of 2026, DESK has successfully trained over 30,000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals across the Republic of Kenya in entrepreneurship and business management. This vast network of skilled professionals represents a new generation of self-reliant entrepreneurs contributing to national development.

From Poverty to Self-Employment

Our livelihoods program focuses on creating sustainable pathways to wealth through:

  • Inclusive Business Development: We provide specialized entrepreneurship training that addresses the unique barriers faced by Deaf business owners, helping them launch and scale micro-enterprises.
  • Sustainable Economic Activities: We empower our members to engage in stable, long-term income-generating activities—ranging from agribusiness to digital trade—ensuring they support their families independently.
  • Financial Inclusion: We facilitate access to innovative financing and guide our members on navigating the NCPWD revolving funds and other government-backed economic opportunities.

Building Family Resilience

Our approach is holistic; we recognize that empowering a Deaf individual strengthens their entire household. By fostering self-employment and providing mentorship, we ensure that families of the Deaf are resilient against economic shocks and fully integrated into the 2026 national development agenda.

Through our professional wing, InclusivePath Consulting, we also work with the private sector to create inclusive supply chains, ensuring that Deaf-led businesses have equal access to corporate and government procurement.
