DESK seeing the challenges the residents of the semi-arid region of Mbeere among them the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, go through as they try to access clean and safe water for domestic and commercial use started the SASWAL project in the district as one of its community development program for the year 2019/23. The goal was to provide accessible, clean, and safe water to the residents of the water-stressed area not only for domestic use but also for commercial use such as farming and other water-reliant economic activities.
Our Target
The project aims to help 5000 households in Kavengero and its neighboring villages of Kanyuambora, Kiriari, and Mariuri Villages.
Project Location
The project is located in Kavengero village in Mbeere North district in Embu County. DESK is mapping out other areas within Embu County and other parts of Kenya in need of such a project.
Results / Anticipated Impact
The SASWAL project will see residents of disadvantaged areas get clean water for domestic and commercial use such as water for farming through irrigation, water for selling, and for other agri-business uses such as fish farming. This will go a long way to alleviate poverty among the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Mbeere district and also help with the food crises currently being experienced by the disadvantaged areas.
