At DESK, we stand with our community during times of crisis. We recognize that Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals—especially those living in extreme poverty—are often disproportionately affected by economic shocks and humanitarian emergencies. Our Food and Non-Food Aid program serves as a critical lifeline, ensuring that no member of our community is left behind when disaster strikes.

Building Resilience Through Essential Support

We increase the resilience of extremely poor Deaf members and their families by providing:

  • Nutritional Support: Distribution of essential food items to households facing food insecurity, ensuring health and stability during periods of crisis.
  • Hygiene and Dignity Kits: Provision of vital non-food items, including sanitation supplies and menstrual hygiene products for Deaf women and girls, to maintain health and personal dignity.
  • Emergency Response: Targeted interventions during national or regional emergencies (such as droughts or floods) to ensure that relief efforts are inclusive of and accessible to the Deaf community.

A Foundation for Long-Term Empowerment

This program is about more than immediate relief; it is about stabilization. By meeting the urgent, basic needs of vulnerable families, we provide them with the security and strength required to engage in our longer-term Economic Empowerment and Education programs. We work in partnership with local county governments and humanitarian organizations to ensure that “Inclusive Aid” is a standard practice across the Republic of Kenya.
